About CAS

The Central Application Service (CAS) distributes applications to residency and fellowship training programs online. Applicants are required to fill out the online CAS application form, provide a set of required documents and select programs for distribution. A separate fee is required for CAS distributions.

CAS is mandatory for Ophthalmology fellowship applicants except when applying to Neuro-Ophthalmology and Pathology subspecialties. Applicants applying to Neuro-Ophthalmology and/or Pathology must register for the Match and contact programs directly to obtain application materials and procedures. Canadian programs are not required to utilize the CAS system. Applicants should check directly with the specific program directors for application requirements before applying through the CAS system.

CAS will distribute complete applications to programs. For Ophthalmology Fellowship an application is complete when the following criteria are met:

• Complete CAS Application form (on-line submission);
• CAS Distribution List and Payment (on-line submission);
• 3 letters of reference (one must be from a Chair and one from a Subspecialist)

Please refer to the CAS Instruction booklet for applicants for detail information.
