Glaucoma for 2013

ADD'L INFO: This program gives participants extensive exposure to the medical and surgical management of difficult glaucoma problems. With ample hands-on training in the latest surgical techniques, fellows will complete between 125 and 150 cases as primary surgeon, and another 300 to 400 cases as assistant over the year.
The fellows will spend time on the glaucoma service at the county hospitals of Dallas and Tarrant counties with clinical faculty supervision, as well as with full-time faculty preceptors who have busy private practices.  Further clinical experiences will be gained at Children’s Medical Center, and the Dallas VA Medical Center.

The fellowship at UPMC Eye Center allows the unique opportunity to train with three clinical fellowship-trained Neuro-ophthalmologists:  two ophthalmology-trained and one neurology trained, as well as Pediatric Neuro-Ophthalmology. We offer exposure to adult strabismus and Oculoplastics surgery, as well as interaction with the neurology and neurosurgical departments.

The Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus fellowship at Seattle Children's Hospital/University of Washington offers a unique opportunity to engage in the full spectrum of medical and surgical treatment of eye disorders in childhood. The Ophthalmology Clinics at Seattle Children's Hospital provide standard eye examinations for children with straightforward eye problems as well as consultations for children with highly complex ocular and medical issues. In addition, the fellow will participate in the wide range of surgical procedures that comprise pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus, including simple and complex strabismus, pediatric cataract and glaucoma surgery, nasolacrimal and pediatric oculoplastic procedures, and surveillance and treatment of retinoblastoma and retinopathy of prematurity. The fellow will also have the opportunity to interact with expert vision scientists in the Seattle Children's visual sensory and oculomotor laboratories, participat  ing in behavioral testing, visual evoked potentials, electroretinograms, and formal eye movement studies. Participation in new or ongoing research projects and journal clubs will also be encouraged.
