Cornea & External Disease & Refractive Surgery for 2008
        Last updated:02/28/08

Park Avenue Laser Vision
SUBSPECIALTY: Refractive Surgery
DESCRIPTION:

Offering a post-residency fellowship (clinical + research) position to begin on July 1, 2008.

Prerequisites: you must have finished an accredited ophthalmology residency in the US.

IMGs: We have had problems in the past with FMGs pulling out of their match because of problems w. residency/visa status, and licensing/insurance status, so we will ONLY take a FMG who has ALL of these things taken care of BEFORE STARTING with us and will ask for PROOF/DOCUMENTATION of this. If this is OK, then we can take you as a fellow, as you would be as effective in our practice as a US graduate.

We are the only center in New York performing exclusively advanced surface ablations (LASEK + EPI-LASEK). You will perform preop and postop exams, as well as surgery on your own patients, which you will generate from your own private clinic. You will master topography, Orbscan, WaveScan, and surgical planning. You will be exposed to complicated cases such as LASEK over prior LASIK, PK, RK, and CK. You will participate in clinical studies, publish articles, and attend national meetings and weekly lectures at area hospitals. I am looking to decrease my clinical duties so I can pursue my patents and make use of my MBA, so I am seeking a great Fellow that I can offer Junior Partnership immediately after Fellowship completion!

Call to speak w. Dr. Chynn in addition to emailing us the application materials listed above. Ask to be put on hold and Dr. Chynn will pick up within 10 minutes--do not leave a message, as this is very important!

Interested applicants please email: Cover letter, CV or resume, personal statement, 3 letters of reference, US-MLE Step I, US-MLE Step II, US-MLE Step III, ECFMG certificate and medical school transcripts,

Type of training: Clinical Only.
Not receptive to International Medical Graduates.

The goal of the glaucoma fellowship program is to provide graduates of accredited residency programs with extensive exposure to the medical and surgical management of difficult glaucoma problems.
The fellow will spend equal time among four preceptors who have busy private practices. The hospitals associated with the program are Zale Lipshy University Hospital, St. Paul University Hospital, Parkland Memorial Hospital, Children's Medical Center Dallas, and the Dallas Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The Parkland Eye Clinic sees an average of 120 to 150 patients per day. Of these, the residents do all of the general ophthalmic workups, with the exception of the glaucoma clinic which is one-half day per week. The fellow is expected to be available to assist the residents with glaucoma problems. Support is also available from the faculty and the chief resident.
Private clinics generally see around 25 to 30 patients per half-day. The fellow will have the opportunity to participate fully in the management of patients. There is ample hands-on training in the latest surgical techniques; the surgical workload is such that the fellow will have completed approximately 100 cases as primary surgeon and another 200 cases as assistant over the year. The clinics have state-of-the-art equipment and excellent ancillary support.

Research projects are encouraged. At any one time there are a large number of clinical research trials ongoing in which the fellows are involved. In-depth involvement in one or more trials by the fellow is encouraged. Additionally, there are five basic scientists in the department with research interests in the anterior segment of the eye. Each has a fully equipped lab with ongoing research projects in which the fellows are encouraged to be active.
Interested applicants please mail the following documents: Program Application form, CV or resume, personal statement, letters of reference (up to 3), US-MLE Step I, US-MLE Step II, US-MLE Step III, college and medical school transcripts.

DESCRIPTION:

Post-match vacancy. One position available.

Restrictive Covenant: No.

Not receptive to International Medical Graduates.

We are accepting applications for a fellowship position in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus to begin July 7, 2008 in The Department of Ophthalmology at UT Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW) and Children’s Medical Center Dallas, in Dallas, Texas. The fellowship is a 12-month clinical position. Children’s Medical Center Dallas (CMC), recently named one of the top-ten pediatric hospitals in America by Child magazine, serves as the primary pediatric teaching facility at our institution. Currently undergoing a $100 million expansion, this institution hosts a large nationally-recognized pediatric residency as well as fellowships in numerous pediatric subspecialties. The ophthalmology service at CMC currently employs two full-time academic orthoptists and several additional ancillary support staff. Two residents from the UTSW Department of Ophthalmology rotate at CMC at any given time. Approximately 8,000 office visits and 1,000 surgical procedures are provided by the CMC ophthalmology service annually. Thirty ophthalmologists (both full-time and clinical faculty) are on the CMC staff, including 10 pediatric ophthalmologists and 20 other ophthalmology subspecialties. The fellow is involved in all aspects of pediatric ophthalmology at CMC including examination of patients in clinics, consults, surgery, and resident teaching. Extensive exposure to adult strabismus evaluation and surgery is also an integral part of the fellowship at participating adult institutions, offices, and day-surgery facilities. The fellow works closely with the fellowship sponsors, David R. Weakley, Jr., MD., and David R. Stager, Sr., MD., as well as other pediatric ophthalmologists on the staff of Children’s Medical Center Dallas and clinical faculty of UT Southwestern Medical Center. Additionally, the fellow will work with full-time faculty in other ophthalmologic subspecialties at CMC in the clinics and operating rooms. Research opportunities abound and are encouraged. Full-time and clinical faculty are actively involved in numerous ongoing studies. This position offers an outstanding opportunity for the highly qualified individual to obtain extensive, high-volume medical and surgical training in all aspects of pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus with an excellent opportunity to gain valuable research experience as well. Further information about our facilities is available at www.utsouthwestrn.edu and www.childmed.dalls.tx.us. As structured, the Program meets the accreditation standards as recently established by the AUPO Fellowship Compliance Comitee.

Interested applicants please email or fax CV or resume, personal statement, three letters of reference, USMLE Steps I, II and III, college and medical school transcripts.
