The ASMF Fellowship is a combined effort between Orthopaedic Associates of Aspen and Glenwood Springs, The Aspen Sports Medicine Foundation, and Aspen Valley Hospital. Our fellowship is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The ASMF Fellows learn specialized surgical procedures, assessment and diagnostic techniques and emergency care of orthopaedic injuries. Research is a major focus of the fellowship program and findings are presented at regular orthopaedic grand rounds at Aspen Valley Hospital as well as at national and international orthopaedic conferences. Aspen offers an exciting and challenging experience for our fellows because of our very active local and visiting population, our large skiing population from four ski mountains and a wide variety of athletic events we cover including: high school varsity athletics, world cup skiing and Norba mountain bike races. Our four faculty members who are sports medicine fellowship trained have developed a unique and comprehensive teaching curriculum for sports medicine and sports trauma consisting of didactic lectures, weekly x-ray conference, journal club, audio-visual training, hands-on cadaver dissections, elective arthroscope experience as well as an extensive clinical experience. Our Fellows receive the following benefits: A salary of $50,000.00 Benefits (after one month) $40.00 per month cell phone allowance Two weeks of paid vacation Two day a week season ski pass for the four Aspen Skiing Company ski areas Two bedroom apartments to rent (no pets allowed) with highly subsidized rent. Detroit Medical Center Sports Medicine Fellowship

Indiana University School of Medicine Program

DESCRIPTION:

Goals and Characteristics: This fellowship provides a balanced and directable, comprehensive postgraduate education in sports medicine. The goal is to train physicians who are knowledgeable in all aspects of sports medicine including the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of sports injuries in the athlete. The fellows will obtain on and off field experience and responsibility from the high school level through to the professional level with the Indianapolis Colts and the NFL Combines. Core rotations with specialty trained mentors include 600+ knee, shoulder, foot and ankle, and hand and elbow surgeries with an emphasis on arthroscopy and minimally invasive procedures. Complex ligament reconstruction, autologous chondrocyte implantation, fresh osteochondral allograft transplantation, meniscus transplantation, and shoulder arthroplasty also enhance the fellows’ education. Fellows are provided an elective to further hone their skills, and total joint arthroplasty and spine surgery are also available. Teaching residents and medical students is coordinated within the university medical system. Clinical research is coordinated through our research department and the fellows will complete and present 2 projects during the year. Applicants should have completed an ACGME accredited residency, be board certified, and have an active Indiana medical license.

Plancher Ortho and SM / Ortho Fnd for Active Lifestyles Fellowship

DESCRIPTION:

This fellowship offers extensive clinical and research experience in ligament reconstruction of the knee, shoulder, hip and elbow. This is an active and exciting clinical experience, achieved through a wide spectrum of operative cases. Surgeries including advanced arthroscopic and revision arthroplasty techniques are performed. Advanced knee and shoulder procedures include cartilage regeneration, meniscal allografts, reconstruction of the PCL, arthroscopic shoulder instability, rotator cuff repairs, hip and complex arthroscopic elbow and ankle procedures. Total shoulder, knee and hip procedures are performed. The Fellow also participates in medical coverage for professional, Division I college and area high school team sporting events, augmenting his/her experience with on-the-field evaluation and treatment. All year access to a six station wet/dry BioSkills laboratory is provided for hands on research and teaching. It is expected that the Fellow will complete one clinical or basic science research project that can be presented at a national meeting and/or published. Many research opportunities are available and participation is ongoing. Applicants must have completed an approved orthopaedic residency program and be eligible for licensure in New York and Connecticut. Interested applicant should submit his/her curriculum vitae, current photo, and three letters of recommendation. Interviews are conducted in the fall. Program is AANA accredited. ACGME accreditation is in process.

Staten Island Orthopedics and Sports Medicine

The Richmond University Medical Center Sports Medicine Fellowship has been in existence for 17 years. This is a fellowship in arthroscopic surgical training and sports medicine, with a concentration on clinical research as well as clinical experience. The fellowship is a one-year program. The fellows are actively involved in all aspects of the private practice, which consists of in-patient, out-patient and intraoperative care. The fellows are responsible for postoperative management of the patients, as well as the follow up of these patients in rehabilitation facilities to which many of these patients go. The research responsibilities involve clinical research from data of the Staten Island Orthopedics and Sports Medicine practice. The fellowship has a relationship with the Hospital for Special Surgery which serves as the basis for a core curriculum program for the fellow. The fellow is part of a core curriculum program once per week and is also active in basic science research at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Surgical skills are instructed throughout the year. This is an indirect contact with the fellowship director as well as the orthopedic attendings that are part of the program. The goal of this fellowship program is to educate the fellow into the care and management of orthopedic and sports medicine patients as well as produce clinical research papers. This progrm is certified by the Arthroscopy Association of North America.
